DHL aims to reduce CO2 emissions to zero for all journeys made to deliver parcels by 2050. This is their main focus, but they are also working on the following areas through the DHL GoGreen programme:
- Energy
- Biodiversity
- Water
- Waste
- Noise
What are they doing to reduce emissions?
Did you know that almost all delivery vans that bring your parcels are powered by electricity? In addition to electricity, there are also cars that run on fossil-free fuel made from waste, residual oil and fats. In addition to delivery vans, there are also more and more electric trucks and (cargo) bikes. This means that your roses are delivered as sustainably as possible.
What has been achieved so far?
The year 2050 is still a long way off, but it is also an enormous goal that has been set. It will not be easy to achieve. DHL is a global company that wants to implement enormous changes on a huge scale. But they are already well on their way! Through the GoGreen programme, DHL has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 25%!
What else is DHL doing to promote sustainability?
- Strategically locating sorting centres so that they are always closer to the recipient;
- Building new gas-free locations;
- Generating our own energy with solar panels at the new locations;
- Charging stations to recharge delivery vehicles between deliveries;
- Making existing sorting centres more sustainable with LED lighting, among other things;
- Insect hotels for our little friends.
And, of course, one thing helps the other. Installing solar panels provides energy to charge the vehicles. Having sorting centres close to the recipient means shorter journeys to the recipient, which means lower fuel consumption. And that makes it quicker and easier to switch to electric vehicles!
Does GoGreen mean that my package is more likely to be delayed?
No, the two are not related. Your roses will not be delayed because they are delivered by electric van. If there is a delay, it is usually due to one of the following reasons:
- Weather conditions
- Traffic jams, accidents or breakdowns en route
- Public holidays
- Strikes
These are things that are beyond our control and unfortunately we cannot do anything to prevent them. Just as you may be affected by them on your way to your holiday or to work.
