Scattering rose petals is a timeless ritual often associated with love, beauty and festive moments. Whether it's a wedding, anniversary, baby shower or romantic surprise, the colourful petals create a magical effect. In this blog, you can read how to use fresh rose petals in a stylish way and how to make your own sustainable flower confetti with dried petals.

Scatter fresh rose petals – straight from nature
Fresh rose petals give off a light, fresh scent, a lively appearance and a soft feel. They are ideal for scattering at moments when you want to create a wow effect, such as:
- At the entrance of the bride and groom
- On a runner or path at a ceremony
- During a romantic dinner
- At a marriage proposal
You can easily order fresh rose petals online
You can order the rose petals directly from us online. They are available immediately, so you can have them delivered to your home quickly. We use fresh roses for the rose petals, because when you remove the petals from the rose, they do not last as long as when you leave them on the rose. This is because you cannot put the rose petals in a vase and water them. The rose petals are removed from the rose just before shipping, so they are still fresh and beautiful when they arrive. They are placed in a cardboard box to allow air to circulate and prevent mould from forming. The petals can be stored in the refrigerator for about 5 days. Be sure to leave them in the cardboard box to prevent condensation!

How many rose petals do you need to scatter?
Think about how many people you want to give rose petals to at your wedding. Will everyone get a handful to throw? Or will everyone standing along the aisle get a handful to scatter? For a beautiful photo, it is actually enough to have 10 people standing on either side of the aisle. If they throw the rose petals at (almost) the same time, the photo will show a beautiful sea of flowers.
How many handfuls can you scatter?
Good question. Below is a guide, but please note that this is for scattering fresh rose petals and is, of course, an estimate. This is a reasonable distribution based on tests we have carried out at the office (we recommend you try it, it's great fun).
- Small - 0.8L - approx. 5 to 7 roses - 5 to 6 handfuls
- Medium - 1.4L - approx. 7 to 10 roses - 10 to 11 handfuls
- Large - 2.0L - approx. 10 to 15 roses - 14 to 15 handfuls
- XL - 6.5L - approx. 40 to 50 roses - 45 to 48 handfuls
Make your own dried rose petals – DIY flower confetti
Want to make your confetti even more personal? Dry rose petals yourself and make your own flower confetti. Not only is it sustainable, but it's also a creative and affordable way to add something special to your event. The petals also last much longer and are easier to clean up. If your venue has issues with you scattering confetti, this is a great compromise! Here's how to dry rose petals step by step:
- Order fresh rose petals.
- Spread the petals – Lay them loosely on a sheet of kitchen paper or a rack.
- Let them dry – Place them in a dry, warm place out of direct sunlight. Within 5–10 days, they will be crisp and ready to use.
- Store in an airtight container – They will keep for months in a jar or paper bag in a dark place.
Want more tips and ways to dry rose petals? Read our blog: drying roses. We have even more methods, so you can see what works best for you. Please note: dried petals shrink slightly in size, so you may need more to scatter.

Which colour rose petals are best?
If you want to use rose petals to make an impression and stand out, it is best to choose red rose petals. If you want to dry them, it is also best to use red or pink rose petals. This is because the colour may change during drying. The leaves with a brighter colour often give the best results! Would you prefer a softer shade for your wedding that is less striking but still creates atmosphere? Then take a look at white, salmon-coloured or soft pink rose petals.
